Made with Xara Accomplishments Here are some of the accomplishments we have made together. The last four years have been filled with goals met and new goals set. Read more about how I have worked to support the District from my new  “In the News”  page.  Leading the District requires a major time commitment from all of your elected Board.  An organization this complex is not lead or well served without a total commitment. Provided leadership in conducting a national search for the District’s Chancellor. Established new committees to reinforce the Board’s commitment to transparency and service to the students and community. Appointed a District General Counsel to assist the District in attaining compliance with all Brown Act related matters. Suggested the creation of a budget advisory committee. Oversaw the reorganization of the District Student Council. Implemented a new master plan for the District. Voted to keep KOCE-TV, as a Public Broadcast Station for Orange County. Initiated a task force on Career Technical Education, which brought in over $400,000 in new funding for solar education training programs. Authored executive hiring policy approved by the Board in 2007. Increased awareness of Career Technical Education, and encouraged staff to compete and seek State and Federal Grants. Co-authored the Board’s Code of Ethics. Strengthened Trustee oversight of District finances and audit procedures. Coauthored Board policy institutionalizing the functions of the Audit Committee. Initiated the purchase of “student alert technology” in response to the Virginia Tech tragedy. Represented the District on the Orange County Legislative Task Force to promote the initiatives of the District. Represented the District on the Orange County School Board’s Association Political Action Group. Drafted the policy for land development and suggested the establishment of a Brown Act compliant Land Development Committee to foster openness and transparency throughout the District. Protected Golden West College campus fro “Big Box” developers. Changed the Board meeting site regarding “big box development” to include the community in discussions by moving the public meeting to the GWC campus. Warned the Administration about the need to retain GATSB 45 funds before the completion of the current State Budget. Supported the Academic Senates and their roles in “transparent” governance. Worked with Chancellor and staff to plan and prepare for the expected H1N1 Pandemic that Public Health agencies have predicted.
